    Odile Pauline Roxas’s artistic practice is rooted in art, inspired by vintage craftsmanship and cultural storytelling. Through her designs, she tells stories of ancient myths that come to life, weaving films where the fairytale princess finds her soulmate. The Atelier explores how garments preserve memories, with particular interest in reinterpreting antiquated ideas like traditional marriage and translating them into intimate designs and one-of-a-kind keepsakes.

    I. Adage

    Debut, Sinulid 2024

    Odile Atelier is deeply connected to the arts and culture in the Philippines, particularly ballet and musical theatre. The Founder, having been a dancer and performer for most of her life, infuses art influence into every piece that comes out of the Atelier. The Atelier’s debut collection, featured in Sinulid 2024, as well as Preview PH and MEGA Magazine, is modelled purely by ballet dancers.

    THE FRENCH WORD ‘ADAGE’, meaning ‘slow’ and ‘sustained movement’ is quite possibly the most accurate word to describe the core concept of my debut collection. Growing upon stage as a dancer has shaped my very being and character into the person I am today.

    Without ballet, all its struggles and ecstasies, I would not be the creative I am.

    Adage is an ode to my second home, Hampton Court Ballet, and my dear family whom I danced with through childhood into adulthood. Only true dancers will ever understand the story of this collection, but at its very core it is a story of a dancer who struggles and overcomes her pains and vulnerability akin to Nina Sayers in Black Swan. When playing a character on the stage, many artists will admit that they tend to throw themselves in the role. So much of an artist’s self is clawed open by the art of ballet; our bodies, our minds, our very souls. No one ever gets to feel the true meaning of dance, what it means to rehearse day in and day out and that feeling of nakedness despite the tight cling of spandex and tulle hugging our bodies.

    In the past few years leading up to the birth of this collection, the themes of expressive femininity through niche trends like coquette-core and movements like female rage lent themselves to my evolving work. It felt right to me that these trends came up at this time- almost like divine timing, destiny. This collection attempts to share a piece of my heart that will always remain on stage, twirling and glimmering in a hot spotlight.
